HYDRA-CELL™ PUMP APPLICATIONS

Hydra-Cell's are designed for pumping abrasive fluidsSPRAY DRYING INDUSTRY

Hydra-Cell Pumps are used extensively for spray drying applications because they do not have costly cups, packing, mechanical seals or stators to wear out.  Hydra-Cell Pumps were designed specifically to handle abrasive fluids at high pressures - which is what is often required for spray drying applications.  Some of the materials our customers have spray dried include tungsten carbide, and lime and carbon slurries, alumina oxide, a variety of ceramics, detergents and MCP (Mono Calcium Phosphate).  Hydra-Cell™ Pumps are more reliable, less expensive to operate and easier to maintain than progressing cavity, or piston pumps.

Hydra-Cell's™ are used by : Food Processing Plants, Pharmaceutical Companies, Manufactures of resins, inks, dyes, flavors and fragrances.

Wanner Engineering pumps are used to: provide a reliable, smooth flow of abrasive fluids (at high pressures if necessary) through special spray drying nozzles

Why are Hydra-Cells so good at pumping abrasive fluids?
It all gets back to the design of the Hydra-Cell™ Pump.  Clicking back to "how it works" and looking at area #7 (between #5 and #6), the highest area of velocity is through the check valve assembly.   It's the check valves that eventually wear and need replacement.  As shown in the "Maintenance Section" they are very easy to change-out.  The great thing about this design is that check valves wear slowly over time, so you'll notice a very gradual drop-off in pressure and flow rate as time goes on - there is no catastrophic failure and leakage concern as with other types of positive displacement pumps.  Click here to learn more about Hydra-Cell's™ Valve Design in Their Slurry Duty Pumps.

The check valve assembly consists of a valve, valve seat, o-ring and retainer.   The majority of applications use stainless steel valves and valve seats.  We will often use ceramic valves and valve seats for abrasive fluids.  The use of abrasion resistant materials in Wanner Engineering's check valves greatly extends their wear-life.

Case In Point:
One of our customers toll dries tungsten carbide slurry.  More than 10 years ago they explained to us that they were replacing their progressing cavity pumps' rotors and stators approximately every 6 weeks.  We explained to them why they could expect longer and more reliable service from Hydra-Cell™ Pumps.  Shortly thereafter we received our first order.

This customer has become one of our number one references!  Using Hydra-Cell™ Pumps they more than doubled the time between required maintenance.  Replacing the check valve assemblies was also less expensive and easier to do than maintaining the progressing cavity pumps.  Ever since then, whenever they required another spray drying pump, they've used Hydra-Cell's™!
